Recreation in West Virginia
West Virginia is a little slice of heaven! It doesn’t take long to figure out why West Virginia gets into your soul. Scenic views throughout the state are breathtaking, abundant recreational opportunities, and the hospitality keeps pulling you back.
During winter snowfall - 200 inches in a good season - the state remains as lively as in mid-summer. Snowy mountain bike trails betray the tracks of snowshoes and cross-country skis. Car roof racks are loaded with skis and snowboards. And wisps of smoke curl from snug cabins and mountain condos.
Wherever you go in West Virginia, you will find craft stores and fairs and festivals. Do some shopping and take home a memory. Many skills have been passed on to devoted crafters. From their hands come beautiful examples of carving, weaving, quilt making, pottery, furniture-building, glass-blowing and jewelry-making - along with jams, jellies, spices, herbs and other edibles. Traditional mountain music has been captured on tape, CD and DVD for generations to come. And tales once told on front porches or around fireplaces are now preserved in books.
