Recreation in Rhode Island

Climate

Rhode Island enjoys a temperate climate, allowing for full manifestation of the four seasons. The warmest months of the year are April through October. Near the end of May, 70 degree temperatures become common, reaching into the 80s and occasionally the 90s during June, July and August - perfect for beach going. Temperatures begin to fall off again in mid-September at the onset of the colorful fall foliage season, which lasts through early November.

Rhode Island has no measurable "rainy" or "dry" season; precipitation falls fairly evenly throughout the year. The first measurable snowfall of winter usually comes toward the end of November. Beginning in December and lasting through mid-March, freezing temperatures are common daily. The month of greatest snowfall is February, with January and March close behind. It is unusual, however, for the ground to remain covered with snow for a long period of time.

Currency Exchange

Most currencies can be exchanged at full-service banks throughout the state. Banking hours are generally 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. For foreign currency exchange, it is advisable to bring a passport. While Canadian currency is readily available at local banks, other international currency can take time and may require several days’ notice.
