What Indiana Has to Offer International Students
Indiana's colleges and universities offer an impressive range of quality education opportunities that attract students from across the U.S. and around the world. Indiana's higher education system annually enrolls more than 400,000 students. Over 17,000 students from more than 200 countries currently pursue studies at Indiana colleges.
Indiana's two largest public universities are Purdue University and Indiana University. Purdue University currently ranks first in international student enrollment among all public U.S. colleges and universities. Through its Office of International Students & Scholars (ISS), Purdue seeks to enhance the academic, cultural, and social pursuits of students and scholars from abroad through knowledge and expertise in admissions, immigration, advising, and cross-cultural programming. In addition to leading the nation in undergraduate engineering enrollment and producing more astronauts than any other college in the nation, Purdue's specialties include agriculture, pharmacy, and management.
Indiana University (IU) has a long tradition of international interests and hospitality to international students. With close to 3,000 students at any time coming from outside the United States, IU's Office of International Services provides a wide range of special services and support programs for its international students. Indiana University has the largest school of nursing and the second largest school of medicine in the nation. IU's other areas of expertise include highly ranked schools of business and law and a world-renowned school of music.
Indiana's other public four-year colleges are Ball State University, which houses well-regarded schools of architecture and communication and Indiana State University and the University of Southern Indiana, each of which offers a wide range of programs including business and education.
Indiana also is home to a number of fine private colleges and universities, including the University of Notre Dame, one of the most prestigious universities in the world. addition to providing excellent educational opportunities, Indiana offers
a multitude of recreation and leisure opportunities. Indiana is home to
dozens of state parks, a national lakeshore, forests, nature preserves,
fish and wildlife areas. Indiana also boasts a variety of museums, art
exhibits, shopping centers, and music ranging from the symphony to rock
concerts.
Indianapolis, the state's capital and one of the largest cities in the United States, has become a major center for sporting and cultural events. Besides being home to the Indiana Pacers professional basketball team and the Indianapolis Colts in pro football, Indianapolis is host to the "Indy 500" and the "Brickyard 400" at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the RCA Championship tennis matches each summer. In addition to its own events, Indianapolis is conveniently located within easy driving distance to other major U.S. cities, including Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, and Cincinnati.
