International Student and Scholar Services
International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) was formed in 1955. ISSS coordinates all facets of international student admissions and services for the international student and scholar.
The ISSS provides a variety of services for international students and scholars. These include orientation and counseling on immigration regulations, culture shock, and adjustment to life in the United States. ISSS also provides assistance with immigration issues, personal and academic adversity, social and extra curricular activities, health insurance, emergencies, etc.
ISSS offers programs throughout the academic year in conjunction with the English Language Institute (ELI) and the International Student and Scholar Organization (ISSO). Programs include the annual International Food Fair, the International Holiday Dinner, special speakers, field trips, and other activities.
ISSS process applications, and all relevant materials for the student desiring admission to the University of Southern Mississippi as an undergraduate or graduate student. ISSS processes approximately 5,000 requests for application each year, evaluates foreign academic credentials and annually receives nearly 1,100 applications from overseas for admission to Southern Miss.
ISSS acts as liaison between the international student and the local community by providing international student speakers for civic organizations and for schools.
