Access to the Best of CU-Boulder

The Center for Advanced Engineering and Technology Education (CAETE) makes it possible for you to complete graduate-level CU-Boulder engineering and technology classes without setting foot on campus. For over 20 years, CAETE has been a leader in providing flexible, convenient access to post-graduate engineering coursework, certificate programs, and advanced degrees. With a variety of distance learning opportunities accessible from virtually anywhere around the world, CAETE gives you the power to achieve your educational goals.

Faculty and Research

UC CampusThe College of Engineering and Applied Science has well over 150 full-time, distinguished, and dedicated faculty members. Eighteen are NSF National or Presidential Young Investigators; 20 are Presidential Early Career Award winners or faculty fellows. In addition, four current senior faculty and four emeritus faculty are members of the National Academy of Engineering. Distinguished Professor Frank Barnes received the prestigious Bernard M. Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education, the National Academy of Engineering’s top educational honor. One faculty member, Kristi Anseth, received the NSF Waterman Award, the organization’s highest honor, recognizing exceptional achievement in scientific or engineering research. The college has 18 endowed chairs and professorships and hosts many distinguished adjunct faculty from industries nationwide.

Eighteen research centers offer additional opportunities to students for interdisciplinary study and support. National laboratories and numerous industrial firms involve the college’s students and faculty in many joint research projects. Research expenditures during the 2004 – 2005 academic year exceeded $59 million.

In the U.S. News and World Report study published in April 2006, the graduate programs at the College of Engineering and Applied Science ranked 22nd among public engineering schools.

Credit Courses, Certificates, and Degrees

All credit courses are approved and offered by CU-Boulder academic programs/departments. Degrees are awarded by individual University of Colorado academic programs/departments. Courses can be taken either as no-credit learning opportunities or for credit toward a graduate certificate or master’s degree in the following engineering disciplines:

Course Library

More than 100 pre-recorded courses are available for academic credit. They can also be rented or purchased through the Course Library. Each library course (unless otherwise noted) is equivalent to 3 credit hours. The amount of media for each course varies, but the total number of lecture hours is approximately the same for each course (30 – 38).

Course Delivery

Courses are offered via the Internet and CD-ROM. DVDs are available by special request. Not all courses are offered in each format.
