CALIFORNIA AREA AND CLIMATE
Sierra College is located in the foothills of the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, 160Km east of San Francisco. Our main campus is located in Rocklin, just minutes from Sacramento, the State Capitol of California. The climate is moderate, with annual rainfall of approximately 18 inches (46 centimeters). Within a 30-mile radius of the campus there are many recreational opportunities with nearby golf courses, river systems and lakes. In one hour by car, you can be in the beautiful Lake Tahoe region that offers skiing, hiking, horseback riding and boating. Or you can choose to go site seeing in San Francisco, the Napa Valley, or the Northern California coast.
EDUCATION IN THE UNITED STATES
Sierra College is a public, two-year community college founded in 1936. Sierra has a national reputation of excellence and offers over 70 Associate Degrees. Certificates of Achievement are offered in a variety of technical-vocational areas. Once a student is proficient in English, students may complete their first two years of university student at Sierra College then transfer to top quality public and private universities for their final two years. All Sierra College students benefit from supportive services such as academic advising, personal counseling, career and professional preparation, tutoring, and health services at no additional charge. The College provides comprehensive administrative, academic, workshop, studio, and laboratory facilities. Students may begin their study during the fall or spring Semesters or during the summer Session. Excellent faculty, smaller classes and lower tuition fees are great advantages for international students.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)
Sierra College offers an ESL Program with courses in reading, writing, and listening/speaking. Upon arrival, each student completes an assessment test to determine the appropriate level of study. Courses at beginning levels are designed for students to enroll full-time. Courses at upper levels are designed for students to enroll part-time so that they can also begin to take other college classes. Students will receive full college credit for courses taken at the upper levels and may also receive credit for these courses once they transfer to a four-year university.
STUDENT CAMPUS LIFE
With an enrollment of approximately 20,000 students and a small percentage of international students, a great opportunity awaits students wishing to improve their English skills. Sierra College students may participate in an active Student Government and many campus clubs, intercollegiate athletics and intramural sports. Sports facilities include a swimming pool, gymnasium, fitness/cardio room, and fields for soccer, baseball and football. There is also a theatre, art gallery, and science museum.
STUDENT HOUSING OPTIONS (DORMITORIES)
On-campus – Sierra College is one of the very few California Community Colleges to have on-campus housing available to our students. The Residential Hall offers students an opportunity to live on campus in a supportive and friendly group environment. Furnished room, utilizes, use of all public areas and equipment plus a weekly food allowance are included. Private parking lot for residents, bicycle storage key and planned activities are available for residents. Spaces fill quickly, so students are encouraged to apply early.
Homestay – For students wishing to live with an American family, they may apply to our Homestay program. Students and families will decide on one of two rates depending if food is included or not. The number of Homestay families is limited so apply early.
Rentals – The International students Office has information on a variety of rentals: apartments, rooms for rent, people looking for roommates, etc. You may stop by the office or email to find out about the listings. A 2-story facility houses 126 students, two students per room, with a connecting bathroom between two rooms. A second single-story building is for male students only and houses 24 students, two students per room, with a community bathroom and shower facility. Meals are served in the Campus Center. A variety of popular fast-food stores, delicatessen, restaurants, and grocery stores are within walking distance of the campus.

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Sierra College offers international students a wide range of advantages, including transfer programs to other colleges and universities; a safe, friendly environment in which to study; on-campus dormitory housing and meals; affordable tuition rates; a variety of supportive services, and a beautiful campus location. Sierra College offers an English as Second Language (ESL) program for students who wish to improve their English skills before entering regular academic studies. Enrollment in the ESL program also provides a fine opportunity for students to be admitted to Sierra College with TOEFL scores of less than 133 CBT or 45iBT. The International Students Office provides a variety of individualized support services including admissions, registration, student visa regulations, and international student orientation.
