Class size is small, allowing each international student the opportunity to receive individual attention. Each professor is uniquely qualified -- professionally and academically -- in his or her field. The international faculty and student body come from each of the 50 states and from more than 80 countries.
International students receive extensive orientation and ongoing assistance through the International Student Services Office, helping them adjust to life and education in another culture. A health clinic attends to the medical needs of students so that they may fully enjoy their educational experience in the United States. An active Intercultural Student Association involves students in many social activities, including trips and art festivals. A strong English as a second language program (ESL) equips students to successfully complete their education in the United States and learn new technologies designed to make them more competitive and marketable in the global marketplace.
Campus facilities are equipped with the latest technology available. Students have access to classrooms, studios, an extensive art and architecture library, computer labs, darkrooms, processing labs and editing and postproduction suites. A book and art supply store, restaurants and galleries are conveniently located. The college also provides a fitness center as well as a selection of residence halls, which offer dining facilities or kitchens.
English as a Second Language Program (ESL)
The Savannah College of Art and Design offers a multilevel English as a Second Language program for non-native speakers of English. ESL instruction also is available for those who would like to improve their English skills without enrolling full time in the academic programs of the college.
The ESL program is staffed by teachers who hold one or more advanced degrees in education, English, linguistics, international studies or related fields. Most ESL instructors have taught in Asia, Europe, Africa or the Middle East and have knowledge of more than one language and culture.
