Founded in 1869, Chatham University is a coed university with a women's college as its historic heart. Chatham University provides international students with a solid education built upon strong academics, public leadership and global perception. Chatham's 35-acre arboretum campus is located on historic Woodland Road in Pittsburgh's Shadyside neighborhood. The University's 1,800 students have easy access to Pittsburgh's dynamic career, cultural, and entertainment opportunities and can share in the educational and social offerings of the other nine area colleges and universities.The University houses three distinctive Colleges: Chatham College for Women houses academic and co-curricular programs for undergraduate women and embodies the traditions and rituals of one of the nation's oldest colleges for women. The College for Graduate Studies offers women and men both masters and doctoral programs. Programs within the College for Graduate Studies include concentrations in art and architecture, business, health sciences, teaching and writing. The College for Continuing and Professional Studies provides online and hybrid undergraduate and graduate degree programs for women and men, certificate programs, and community programming including the Summer Music and Arts Day Camp.
Students' personal, professional, and leadership skills are developed to their fullest potential through internships, study abroad, service-learning and leadership training opportunities, and personal development seminars. All first-year students receive HP tablet computers which are integrated into coursework, with access to a wireless campus network. Chatham University's undergraduate student-teacher ratio is 8:1, which ensures greater interaction between students and faculty. Ninety-four percent of all undergraduate faculty members hold terminal degrees.
Academic Programs for International Students
The College's 4-4-1 academic calendar consists of fall and spring terms, plus a three-week "Maymester." Maymester programs include study abroad, concentrated study, experimental projects, travel and field experiences, internships, interdisciplinary study, and student exchanges with other colleges. The First-Year Student Sequence introduces students to the College community and its culture and provides opportunities to learn about the resources of the urban environment and study issues of concern to women. These courses provide students with the analytical and communication skills essential for successful college performance.The University offers especially strong preparation for law school, medical school, and science-based graduate programs. Special agreements with other institutions offer accelerated master's work in public policy and 3-2 opportunities in engineering with Carnegie Mellon University. Chatham students also may elect to earn teacher certification--for early childhood, elementary, secondary, or environmental education--while they complete an undergraduate degree.
Chatham's undergraduate curriculum, combined with the Senior Tutorial, an original research project guided one-on-one with a Chatham professor, provides an excellent foundation to continue to graduate and professional schools. The College offers strong preparation for law school, medical school, and science-based graduate programs as well as the College's own graduate degree programs. The Five-Year Masters Program enables every undergraduate student to apply to one of the College's graduate programs during her sophomore or junior year, allowing her to earn both a bachelor's and master's degree in as few as five years.

Campus Facilities and Equipment
The Jennie King Mellon Library contains more than 87,962 volumes and 700 subscriptions to online and print periodicals. The Library offers individual study areas, special seminar rooms and a 24/7 study room. Through consortium memberships, the JKM Library provides access to print materials from hundreds of academic libraries nationwide.The Science Laboratory Complex houses state-of-the-art science laboratories and individual laboratory units. The College's new Broadcast Studio contains sophisticated audio and video editing technology, Macintosh G-5 computers, and a multi-functional studio.
With completion of the new Athletic and Fitness Center, the College converted its old gymnasium into the new Art and Design Center which features fine and applied art studios, a computer lab, classroom, and gallery and student exhibition space.
On-campus housing includes three former mansions, a traditional residence hall and apartment buildings. All rooms are wired to the campus network. Residency is required for first-years and sophomores (unless students commute from home).
Chatham University American College English (ACE) Program
The Chatham ACE Program offers English instruction to beginners and intermediate ESL students and provides a "bridge" to students who strive to attain a high level of academic proficiency. ACE students who have obtained advanced competency in English (a minimum TOEFL score of 500 or 173 on the computer-based test) may apply for conditional admission as an undergraduate at Chatham College.Chatham International Merit Scholarships
Chatham University offers scholarships for international students based on a combination of TOEFL (or SAT) scores and GPA conversion. Scholarships ranging from $6,000 to $15,000 are awarded upon completion of the application process. Scholarships are renewable as long as a student maintains a 2.8 GPA.
Chatham International World Ready Woman Scholarships
Chatham offers scholarships for international students based on resume, interview and short essay. Students who wish to participate need to contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@chatham.edu. World Ready Women Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000 a year and are renewable as long as a student maintains a 2.8 GPA.Admission to Chatham University
