City College of San Francisco, a public two-year college accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, is set in historic, beautiful San Francisco. More than 1500 international students attend the college and the intensive English program as full time students. The campus community reflects a wide range of racial, ethnic and national groups, and this diversity results in a campus community with a distinct international flavor. This 56-acre campus is easily reached by major transportation lines from throughout San Francisco, the south peninsula, and the East Bay cities of Oakland and Berkeley. For international students, City College of San Francisco offers both an academic or credit program with a diverse and university level curriculum and an intensive English program that is accredited by AAIEP, the American Association of Intensive English Programs.

Academic Program for International Students

The academic program at CCSF has programs that are designed to help students meet their general education requirements for transfer to four-year colleges and universities, update job skills, prepare for a career change or pursue personal enrichment. Semi-professional programs provide specialized college-training in both degree and certificate curriculum. Programs are designed to qualify students for entry employment in fields such as Culinary Arts and Hospitality Studies, Ornamental Horticulture, Graphic Communications, Film Production, Biotechnology, and Child Development (partial list). The college confers the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees on students who satisfy the requirements for graduation.

Test requirement for enrollment: TOEFL 475 (PBT) or 153 (CBT), iBT 52, or IELTS 4.5 All students must also be 18 years of age, a high school graduate and submit official high school or college transcripts with a certified translation into English .*

* City College of San Francisco offers Conditional Admission to international students whose test scores for admission are below the required scores. For more information, email us at institute@ccsf.edu.

Intensive English Program

The Intensive English Program offers an intensive academic English program for students who want to increase their English proficiency or who have not yet achieved the required TOEFL score to enroll in the academic program at CCSF: 475 (paper-based) or 153 (computer-based). Semester courses are 17 ½ weeks or 8 ½ weeks in length; summer programs are 4 or 8 weeks long. Twenty hours per week of intensive instruction focus on English grammar, reading, writing, communication, and study skills. This program also includes electives in American Culture, Listening Comprehension, Vocabulary and Short Story Reading. Practice TOEFL tests are given throughout each semester. The institutional TOEFL examination is given twice at the end of each semester. Smooth transfer to CCSF's academic program and priority consideration is given to IEP students. Along with the weekly instruction, many social activities are planned, including picnics, dining out, museum visits, theaters performances, tour of local places of interest, and a language partner program.

The Intensive English Program also offers customized programs.

All students must be 18 years of age and have a basic knowledge of English before applying.

  • $50 Application fee (non-refundable)
  • $2,995 Tuition for 17 ½-week program
  • $1,595 Tuition for 8 ½-week program
  • $1,495 Tuition for 8-week summer program
  • $795 Tuition for 4-week summer program
  • $14 Mandatory Health Service Fee

City College of San Francisco is authorized to enroll qualified non-immigrant students by USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigrant Service).
